Effect of Food Preferences on Some Biological Aspects of the Cigarette Beetle, Lasioderma serricorne F.
Keywords:
Lasioderma serricorne; coriander; anise; chamomile; fennel; caraway; cumin; preferred; non–preferred.Abstract
The cigarette beetle, Lasioderma serricorne, is one of the most important insects that attack most of the stored dry materials, especially wheat and medicinal and aromatic plants. The experiments conducted on preferred and non-preferred foodstuffs were the future objective of identifying them to find an optimal way to control them. The results obtained show that the insect preferred coriander, anise, chamomile, fennel, caraway, and cumin is the least preferred for mating, laying eggs, and larval development. The results showed that the insect is attracted to the host plants that contain sufficient protein, carbohydrates, 1.8 cineole, p- cymene and limonene to develop and preserve their offspring.
